Crested Butte Elopement

Crested Butte Elopement

A magical summer day filled with wildflowers and alpine lake made for the perfect setting for this Crested Butte elopement! | Kelsey and Kyle

When you want wildflowers on your elopement day in Colorado, Crested Butte is the perfect choice! Kelsey and Kyle’s mid-July Crested Butte elopement was at the peak of wildflower season and could not have been more beautiful! Their elopement day was even during the wildflower festival that happens each year in Crested Butte. While this is the most busy time to visit, it was certainly worth it to have their wedding day amongst the flowers!

The best time to enjoy wildflowers at the lower elevations in Crested Butte is early to mid-July. If you’re going deeper into the mountains for some off-roading or hiking at the higher altitudes, mid to late-July is when you are likely to catch the peak of wildflowers in Colorado. Of course this varies year to year and depends on exact location, but a safe time-frame for a Colorado wildflower elopement, is mid-July.

If you want to get married among Colorado’s beautiful wildflowers, I will help you pick the perfect spots! Let’s chat!

Getting Ready

Kelsey and Kyle started their day by getting ready in the most beautiful Crested Butte house rental. The views from here alone were already breathtaking! Their details included dress shoes, but also hiking boots. Kelsey even had a third pair of shoes; custom converse. The converse had Kelsey and Kyle’s initials and wedding date embroidered into them! Kelsey also wanted flowers that felt like the wildflowers of their wedding day, and West Elk Floral based in Crested Butte definitely delivered!

Silly First Look

After Kelsey and Kyle finished getting ready, Kyle prepared for what he thought would be his first look with Kelsey. However, Kelsey decided that she wanted Kyle’s first time seeing her to be when her dad walked her down to the ceremony. So, Kelsey decided to prank Kyle by sending her brother-in-law in a wedding dress, in her place! There were so many laughs during this moment.

Crested Butte Elopement Ceremony

Soon enough, it was officially time for their ceremony! The ceremony spot had a lake and an amazing view of Mt. Crested Butte. Kelsey’s dad walked her down to the ceremony location where Kyle waited. Tears immediately filled both of their eyes. They read heartfelt vows to one another and exchanged rings before their official first kiss as husband and wife! After their ceremony, we took some family photos, just in time before the rain came! Don’t worry, I always have some clear umbrellas for you in case Colorado’s unpredictable weather strikes on your elopement day.

License Signing and Champagne Toast!

We all went back to the house to wait out the rain. Kelsey and Kyle signed their marriage license and then changed into hiking boots to get ready for the next adventure of their elopement day. Once the rain stopped, we went outside for a quick champagne toast before heading out for the hike.

Alpine Lake Hike

Kelsey and Kyle decide they wanted part of their elopement day to be an adventure, just the two of them. They wanted an alpine lake, waterfall, and wildflowers. This hike to Lake Irwin provided all three! The Lake Irwin hike was about 2 miles around the lake, making it a perfect spot for an elopement day adventure in Crested Butte. Just as with their ceremony, the rain hit right at the end of the hike. Summer storms can be common in the mountains, so always be prepared with rain jackets when adventuring on your Colorado elopement day!

Crested Butte Wildflowers

When we finished hiking, there was one more location in store for Kelsey and Kyle. We had to stop at one of the most wildflower filled trails in Crested Butte; the Snodgrass Trail! The Snodgrass Mountain Trail is a very popular location in Crested Butte, but for a good reason. The earlier season sees plenty of purple lupines in the meadow, and then later in July some more purple and yellow flowers appear. Golden hour light, colorful flowers, and mountain views, made for some amazing photos! This was our final spot in the mountains before Kelsey and Kyle were going to meet back up with their family for dinner and celebrations. But first, Kelsey gifted Kyle the sweetest coin (Kyle loves collecting coins) to commemorate their Crested Butte wedding day. Then, Kelsey changed out of her hiking boots into her converse, and we were on our way to dinner.

Elk Ave for Dinner and Cake!

You can’t be in Crested Butte and not make a stop on Elk Ave! Elk Ave has so many cute and colorful buildings. So we took some pictures as we made our way to The Wooden Nickel for Kelsey and Kyle’s little reception. At their reception, they cut cake, ate a delicious meal, shared laughs with their loved ones, and their waitress even brought them shots to celebrate an amazing elopement day!

Congratulations, Kelsey and Kyle!
